Guiyang Metro S1 Line has invited disabled volunteers to test ride newly added and renovated barrier-free facilities.

The S1 Line opened on Dec 28. During the trial operations, disabled volunteers suggested improving the barrier-free facilities, including the accessible restroom handle and the tactile paving on the way to the Line 3 transfer.

At the end of February, renovation work based on volunteers' suggestions was completed under the coordination of Guiyang Public Transport Investment and Operation Group Co.

On March 4, blind volunteers, with the help of staff members, experienced the transfer from Line S1 to Line 3 at Zhongcaosi Station. Over 92 meters of tactile paving has been added to the transfer channel, which assists blind people in transferring independently.

"The metro is very convenient for us. With this tactile paving, our family feels relieved," said Peng Xiaolong, deputy secretary general of the Guizhou Association of the Blind, expressing gratitude to the two lines' construction, operation, and maintenance parties.

The disabled volunteers also visited the accessible restroom at Zhongcaosi Station to experience the renovated toilet handle. Liang Shehong, head of the Guiyang Accessibility Experience Volunteer Service Team, said that compared to the previous handle, this rotatable one is more convenient for wheelchair users, "We appreciate the attention paid to the opinions of the disabled on the S1 line," he said.
