At Zhenshan village, located in Shiban town, Huaxi district, the Bouyei and Miao ethnic groups live together. You can reach the village by taking the Guiyang Metro S1 Line and getting off at Shibanzhen Station.
This ancient village was founded during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), specifically the Emperor Wanli period (1573-1620). Surrounded by water on three sides and nestled up against the mountains, it has preserved several types of ancient architecture, including fortress walls, ancestral halls, and other structures from the Ming Dynasty, with a history of over 400 years.
Walking into Zhenshan feels like entering a world of stone, with stone houses, stone paths, stone walls, and stone roads. These stones have been used to build ancient residences, military temples, and the fortress wall, which are must-see attractions for visitors to the village.
On July 7, 1995, the Zhenshan Village Fortress Wall was listed as a cultural heritage site in Guizhou.
At the end of the 20th century, a Norwegian museum scholar visited Zhenshan and proposed the establishment of a network of ecological museums in Guizhou. This initiative greatly contributed to the establishment of the Bouyei Ethnological Museum in Zhenshan. In 2002, the Bouyei Ethnological Museum in Zhenshan was completed.
