The departure of train S5404 on Jan 5 from Gui'an Railway Station's newly expanded Gui'an section marked the official launch of its much-anticipated upgraded facilities.

Situated in Xinmin village, the station now boasts a total area of approximately 70,000 square meters, following the expansion project initiated in November 2022 by China Railway Chengdu Group and China Railway Construction Engineering Group.

Originally opened in March 2022, Gui'an Railway Station is serving as a major transportation hub connecting high-speed rail, metro and bus services.

The expansion includes a second elevated waiting hall, additional platforms – increasing from seven to 13 – and improved baggage pathways, significantly improving its passenger handling capacity and transport integration.

Architecturally, the station merges classical Chinese aesthetics, elements of Guizhou's diverse ethnic cultures and modern design. Features such as vaulted arches and batik patterns blend with contemporary materials like  space trusses and aluminum-magnesium panels, achieving a balance of tradition and modernity.

With the upgrade, daily train services are projected to increase from 56 to 68.

The station aims to better integrate with key routes like the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway and Guiyang's urban rail system, fostering regional economic growth and connectivity for Guizhou province.
