Guiyang Urban Rail Transit Line S1 will commence operations at noon on Dec 28, marking a significant milestone for the city.

Construction of Line S1 began in May 2021 and has taken three and a half years. The project reached critical milestones, including completing the tunnel, track, electrical systems, and communications and signal verification. After 90 days of rigorous trial operations without passengers and passing a safety assessment by the China Academy of Transportation Sciences, the line received final approval from the Guiyang Municipal Government.

The line spans 30.32 kilometers from Zaojiaoba Station in Gui'an New Area to Wangchengpo Station in Nanming district. It crosses three administrative regions: Gui'an New Area, Huaxi district (including Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone), and Nanming district. It features 13 stations, one depot, one parking lot, a control center, and two substations. Key interchange stations include Wangchengpo with Line 1 and Zhongcaosi with Line 3.

With operating hours from 6:20 am to 11:00 pm and a maximum speed of 100 km/h, Line S1 introduces Guiyang into the "network era" of urban transit. It expands the city's metro system to four lines with a total network length of approximately 149.13 kilometers.
