Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will build a modern comprehensive transportation system this year, according to the 2024 government work report by the Guiyang Municipal Government.

The preliminary work on the comprehensive transportation hub will also be carried out in the central part of the province. The move aims to improve the city's transportation efficiency and safety, and create a more convenient travel environment for its residents.

Specifically, the city will accelerate the construction of its T2 tram line, the Wudang-Changshun Expressway, and the Guiyang-Pingtang Expressway. It will also complete the extension of the Guiyang-Huangping Expressway, and open the first phase of the S1 rail transit line. Additionally, it will connect 12 cut-off or impassable roads and enhance the connection capabilities between public transportation and rail transit.

Furthermore, by launching a pilot program for integrated smart traffic lights, Guiyang will swiftly build up its intelligent transportation system, and comprehensively address 11 traffic bottlenecks to improve the effectiveness of congestion alleviation.

In 2023, Guiyang Metro Line 3 began operation, making the city's metro network daily throughput exceed 620,000.

In addition, Guiyang optimized and adjusted 58 conventional bus routes, and added 273 customized bus routes last year, effectively improving public transportation efficiency. The opening of the Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway and the Guiyang-Jinsha-Gulin Expressway also contributed to the improvement of Guiyang's transportation network.
