Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province introduced 27,704 new parking spaces in 2023, surpassing the annual target of 20,000 public parking spaces.

To fully utilize the idle resources of market entities and collective economies, the Guiyang Transportation Committee conducted multiple visits and surveys, encouraging the use of idle land for public parking lots.

For instance, the city's Huaxi district utilized idle land after rail construction to build the Huaxi Hospital Metro Station and the Huaxi Station parking lots, providing 249 parking spaces. The Xinzhuang Road parking lot in Wudang district is a rooftop parking space built on top of a factory building. After passing load-bearing tests, it now offers 275 parking spaces.

The Guiyang Transportation Committee also explored the paid sharing of residential parking lots. Each district, county and county-level city in Guiyang selected one or two qualified parking lots as pilot sites. The committee also arranged for the parking lots of government and public institutions and State-owned enterprises in Guiyang and Gui'an to offer free parking during off-peak hours. So far, a total of 148 locations with 17,873 parking spaces have been made available for free.

Looking ahead, the committee plans to push forward with standardized construction, information services, legal guarantees, and the market-oriented development of public parking lots. These efforts are geared towards providing the public with a convenient, efficient, smart, and secure parking environment.
