Guiyang City and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have been developing a modern rail transit system, consisting of metro lines 1, 2, 3, S1 and Guiyang Tram Demonstration Line (Line T2), to serve the latest model of urbanization.

The first phase project of Guiyang Metro Line 3, spanning a total length of 43.03 kilometers, connects Huaxi district with the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone and Nanming, Yunyan, and Wudang districts. The main construction work has been completed, with over 97 percent of the main structures finished. Operations are due to begin in December.

The construction of Line S1, an important route connecting Guiyang and Guian, is progressing smoothly and will accelerate the integrated development of the two areas once it is put into operation.

Li Wentong, the project manager of Line S1, said the first phase covers 30.32 km, and the civil engineering work is now over 80 percent complete. It is expected to be open for service next year.

Compared to the subway, Line T2 lays the foundation for Guiyang's "future transportation".

It uses self-developed vehicles by Chinese carmaker BYD, and runs on an elevated track, utilizing unmanned driving technology.

The line has a fully automated operation system and is equipped with cutting-edge intelligent urban rail technologies, such as the world's leading and most efficient permanent magnetic motor and advanced bogie system.

It boasts such advantages as high safety, intelligence, adaptability, aesthetics and low energy consumption and noise levels.

The depot for Line T2 has also now been completed. The civil engineering work is around 85 percent finished, and mechanical, electrical, and communication engineering are all in progress. It is expected to start operations in October 2024.
