Guiyang city, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will implement its "Technical Guidelines for Bus Route Optimization" standards from July 18, in a move projected to yield significant benefits to commuters.
The guidelines, which were proposed by the Guiyang Transportation Committee and drafted by the Guiyang Transportation Development Research Center, standardize the general principles for an optimized bus route network in the city.
They provide specifications for standards and technical guidelines for Guiyang to maximize its allocation of public transport resources, methodically map out bus network operations plans and logically distribute bus routes.
They are also expected to offer strong support in improving public transport services, bus service quality and passenger satisfaction, and contribute to Guiyang's development as a national demonstration city for public transport.
Under the guidelines, the improvements to the bus routes will be coordinated with urban and transportation planning.
The initiative aims to introduce more reasonable route lengths and station settings and to optimize transfers and connections between buses and rail transits, to improve overall efficiency in the public commuting system.
The guidelines make it clear that an evaluation of the urban bus network should be carried out on a regular basis every year, with the results used as a reference for the adjustment and maximization of the bus routes annually.
Local residents can put forward their suggestions through the 12345 hotline, the official website of the city's government and transportation authorities.
