Urban traffic congestion has become a prominent problem affecting the quality of life for residents of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
To make travel safer, more convenient and faster, the city has scientifically formulated plans and adopted targeted measures.
Due to the refined governance of Guiyang's traffic management departments and joint efforts by other government departments over the course of several months, the traffic at many intersections in the city has become smoother.
Siguang intersection, an important section of road between Wudang, Yunyan and Guanshanhu districts, was previously overcrowded with vehicles and pedestrians at rush hour and suffered from serious traffic congestion.
By adjusting the lanes, optimizing the timing of traffic lights, and assigning special personnel to strengthen traffic guidance, traffic efficiency at the intersection has been increased by 30 percent, said Jiang Hongyu, an official of the Wudang branch of the Guiyang public security and traffic administration bureau.
According to navigation application Baidu Map's statistics in January and February, Guiyang's monthly average congestion index and congestion mileage decreased by varying degrees compared with the same period last year. The peak hour congestion index decreased by 11.1 percent, and the peak hour congestion mileage decreased by 52.4 percent.
Next, the city will seek to improve traffic congestion through five different methods, including improving data analysis, furthering intelligent transportation, and optimizing infrastructure.
