Guiyang Intelligent Parking Industrial Investment Development Co – a State-owned company located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – developed a smartphone app for smart parking back in 2020 and has since had about 1 million registered users.
The app allows users to check for unoccupied parking spots, navigate to parking lots and pay parking fees online.
Last June, the app was upgraded and can now provide accurate navigation to a parking lot's different entrances and protect users' privacy while paying parking fees.
The app can also collect vehicle usage information from Guiyang's parking lots, to provide data for government supervision and realize unmanned management, so as to reduce the costs of parking lots.
It is connected to the Guiyang transportation commission's intelligent transportation platform to share the data of parking lots, parking spots, users and help act against illegal parking.
Supported by related government departments, the company has constructed about 80,000 parking lots for companies, public institutions and public service organizations – connected its intelligent parking platform with 260,000 parking spots and informationized 2,428 parking spots.
Moving forwards, plans are for the company to apply big data, cloud computing, augmented reality and the internet of things in intelligent parking management, to benefit more people.
