The new Dulaying international land-sea logistics port -- located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- went into operation on April 30, according to local media reports.
Its first freight train, loaded with 1,650 metric tons of bauxite, departed from the city en route to Qinzhou port in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. From there the cargo will be shipped abroad.
The facility is expected to strengthen Guizhou's links with the economic hubs of western China such as Chengdu in Sichuan province and Chongqing. It is also expected to reduce the overall costs of regional logistics and promote the rapid development of the regional economy, according to officials.
Construction of the first phase of the port started in December 2018 and it was completed on Jan 29 this year. It has a railway operations area, an urban distribution area, a support storage area, a service area and an office area.
The facility mainly accommodates businesses that cover grain and oil, steel, building materials and the fast-moving consumer goods industries. It is designed to handle annual cargo throughput of 5 million tons.
The second phase of the port is currently being planned. It will mainly handle special agricultural products, cold chain materials and freight imports and exports.
