During the recent May Day holiday travel rush -- which ran from April 29 to May 6 -- the three major railway stations in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, handled a total of 1.06 million passengers, hitting a new high.
The three stations are Guiyang Railway Station, Guiyang North Railway Station and Guiyang East Railway Station.
Statistics showed that during the eight-day commuting rush, the trio of stations handled a daily average of 132,800 passengers. From May 1 to 5, they handled a total of 688,000 passengers.
Both the total number of passengers and the daily average number of passengers broke performance records.
By 6 pm on May 1 -- during the first day of the five-day break -- the Guiyang railway stations had handled some 216,000 passengers, an increase of 15 percent compared with the same period in 2019 and another record.
The Guiyang railway department added more than 70 trains during the rush and organized 200 members of staff into special service teams, to provide various services for passengers.
