Guiyang South Railway Station reported growth in both the volume of goods shipped and transportation revenue in the first quarter of this year, according to information from Guizhou's railway department.
The station is located in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province. It is the largest-scale railway freight station in the province.
Statistics show that in the first quarter, the station sent 613,000 metric tons of goods, a year-on-year increase of 48.5 percent. This generated transportation revenue of 117 million yuan ($17.94 million), a year-on-year increase of 48.15 percent.
To increase freight volume, station officials held a meeting at the beginning of this year to discuss the freight situation and analyze the supply of goods.
The officials made plans according to companies' characteristics to help them save money on transportation costs. They also visited more than 70 key companies involved in cement, cement clinker, ethylene glycol, alumina and oil products.
The station's officials formulated specific responsibilities for project planning, pick-up and delivery, loading and service quality, and made time adjustments to promote continuous supply increases.
