The first batch of five automobile emission pollution maintenance and treatment stations – also known as "M stations" – were put into use on Oct 30 in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The five M stations are the auto maintenance branch of Guiyang Automobile Passenger Transport Company, Guiyang Qianshuang Auto Service Company, Guiyang Yunyan Junfu vehicle repair plant, Guiyang Baiyun Shunxing vehicle repair plant and Guiyang Huaxi Jiahong vehicle repair plant.

Regularly used motor vehicles are expected to visit the motor vehicle emission inspection agencies (stations) for emission inspections per the law. Those that fail the examinations shall go to M stations within 15 workdays to get repairs.

The information on these vehicles with excessive emissions should also be reported to the local ecology and environment department. They need to receive emission fault diagnosis and maintenance under relevant technical standards.

According to an official from the city's transportation committee, the establishment of the M stations is an effort by Guiyang to control and fight pollution.
